Aug. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Radiowaves, the revolutionary Social Networking site for schools is celebrating today after young people from its Youth Sports Channel, Supporter 2 Reporter, secured exclusive coverage of an event to mark the official three-year countdown of the 2012 Olympics, where ambassadors from the Centre Point Charity for homeless young people successfully trekked up the Helvellyn mountain in Cumbria accompanied by HRH Prince William.

The event which took place on July 24 not only gave children from the specialist schools website the chance to interview his royal highness, but it actively worked to encourage journalistic ambition.

Katy Atkinson, Project Manager from S2R, who was lucky enough to complete the hike alongside the Prince said, “The children all worked really hard at the event and we are all really proud of what they achieved.  We were the only media that were allowed to report from the summit, thanks to the S2R’s Inspire Mark (recognition from London 2012 as being truly inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values)  which made it all the more special.’’

“Meanwhile while the event was taking place, our colleagues were at a conference in Liverpool to mark the three-year countdown to 2012, where they orchestrated a live link up with Prince William straight back to the conference. The Liverpool audience were able to get an insight into the expedition, as the mountain reporters were sending mobile blogs to Radiowaves as they climbed. Other S2R reporters then interviewed HRH Prince William about his thoughts on the Olympics.”

Soon after the young reporters descended the mountain, news coverage was then posted by them on to the Radiowaves website in the form of a short video documentary and a printed news story, for all to see the exclusive news as it unfolded.

One of the reporters from the online education site, who took part in the trek said, “To sum it up in one word today has been... 'amazing'! Just having the opportunity to climb Helvellyn and meet a prince is unbelievable. He was really down to earth and easy to speak to. The climb took all the energy out of me but it was worth it every minute from the great views to the laughs on the way.’’
