July 31, 2009 - PRLog -- Duplin Winery, the largest winery in the South and the winery that jumpstarted the burgeoning wine industry in North Carolina over 30 years ago, has rolled out the latest release in their growing family of Muscadine wines.  Sweet Caroline is a red Muscadine table wine and reveals the winner of the 2009 Jewels of Carolina Label Art Competition. The new wine is similar to the wildly popular commemorative TEN wine produced for the Carolina Hurricanes Tenth Anniversary Season two years ago.

The annual Jewels of Carolina Art Label Competition was held for the second time this year with great success and widespread response.  Artists from across the country sent in artwork for the competition.  In the end, five finalists were chosen by the Duplin Winery Heritage Wine Club members and those selected were then voted on by the public through an interactive voting process.

The winner of the 2009 Jewels of Carolina competition is Sheyenne Wiggins of La Grande, Oregon.  “It’s an incredible honor and privilege to have my artwork chosen as this year’s winner.  I never dreamt one of my portraits would be on a wine label.”

Ms. Wiggins heard about the competition with only a few weeks to the entry deadline and had never had the experience of creating a work from a title only.  “When I heard the wine would be called Sweet Caroline, I saw a picture in my head:  A woman from long ago, looking over her shoulder, asking you to join her in a place where time moves slowly.  I wanted Caroline to be someone who represented different women, who had life experiences, told a story, and found strength and happiness at the end of it all.”

The portrait created by Sheyenne Wiggins perfectly reflects the essence of the wine, Sweet Caroline.  Sweet Caroline is a mellow blend of Niagara grapes picked at the height of ripeness, bursting with fresh fruit flavors.

Currently, Sweet Caroline is in the tasting line up for Duplin Winery’s free daily tastings of their award winning wines.

Sweet Caroline is available through the Duplin Winery retail store located in Rose Hill and online at www.duplinwinery.com.
