British “Equality” Laws Breed Hostility Toward Christianity, May Foreshadow Things To Come in America, Say Experts on August 2 Coral Ridge Hour

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (July 29, 2009) – Growing intolerance toward the Christian faith in Europe due to “equality” and “diversity” laws could presage similar events here, experts warn on the Sunday, August 2 Coral Ridge Hour.

“Christians are very scared to speak their minds,” said Paul Diamond, one of the founders and attorneys for the Christian Legal Centre, a British organization that defends Christians’ freedoms. “[E]ven a minister in a church is fearful.”

The Christian Legal Centre recently took a case involving Duke Amachree, a social worker in London. For the past 18 years, Duke worked to prevent his clients from becoming homeless.

Earlier this year, Duke met with a client who faced homelessness and an incurable medical condition. Duke offered the woman words of hope saying that if her doctors could not help her, “she should put her faith in God.”

Two days later, Duke was called into a meeting with his manager and director who suspended him from his job for raising the issue of religion at work. He was told it was inappropriate to mention God—even to use the common phrase, “God bless.”

“For somebody to lose their job over the comments that Duke made is really unbelievable,” said Michael Phillips, attorney for the Christian Legal Centre.

Duke’s story is just one of many examples of the discrimination and harassment faced by Christians in England.

“It’s easy to look at the situation elsewhere and say, ‘That could never happen here; this is America!’” said Coral Ridge Hour Senior Producer Jerry Newcombe. “It is true we enjoy religious liberties, thanks to our biblical roots, but that could soon be changing.”

The late Dr. D. James Kennedy, the founder of Coral Ridge Ministries, links Christianity to political freedom in his message, “The Spirit of Liberty,” which precedes the Sunday feature on The Coral Ridge Hour.  http://www.coralridge.org/medialibrary/default.aspx?media...

“Where men’s hearts have been set free by the Gospel, it has not been long before their nations have become free, and free governments have replaced tyrannies,” Dr. Kennedy states in the sermon. “Those nations that are free today are free because of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
