Follow on Google News | Motorcycle Show Thunders OnSwansea Museums Classic Motorcycle Show thundered on last Sunday, despite the real thunder and torrential rain that accompanied it.
By: City and County of Swansea The show was a hit in terms of numbers of motorcycles attending, the rare machinery not suited to teeming rain and flooded roads, but around fifty machines and riders made it to Dylan Thomas Square. With showers continuing, the square was nevertheless thronged with equally hardy visitors, all enjoying typical British summer weather in determined fashion, clearly appreciating the efforts the riders had made to attend. The show is considered by its peers as being one of the best in the area, attracting a range of motorcycles from a record breaking Suzuki Hyabusa “superbike” Other modern machines included the Italian Ducati marque, Honda machines such as the gleaming customised Hornet 600, massive Goldwing ‘trikes, and of course the traditional British bikes of the ‘fifties and sixties. These included such models as the Norton Commando, BSA C15 250, and the huge range of Triumph models, including the legendary 650 Bonneville, and that classic “café racer” the Triton, a hand built special that used the famed Norton frame teamed with the powerful Triumph engine. The show attracted large numbers of spectators despite the less than ideal weather, and the future of Swansea Museum Classic Motorcycle Show looks to be even better established. There may be another show later in the year, based at the Swansea Museum Collection Centre at Landore, prior to the Dylan Thomas Square show returning in the Summer of 2010.
