Many of these children are HIV positive.
By: Mutani Yangwe, TSC - Sports Academy (TSC –SPORTS ACADEMY) TSC – Sports Academyis transforming lives through sports. It is a unique Tanzania street children sports project predominantly using sports to advocate street children’s rights. The project aim to changes the way that society perceives and treats street children through educating society as to the realities of the street child experience and through developing and implementing informed, working strategies to address the issue in Tanzania. TSC – Sports, has designed to improve the lives of Tanzania’s orphans and vulnerable children through sports education, and develop their talents for their future career especially in football. TSC – Sports started at our street children residential centre in 2007, after realizing how talented our children were, when they play football, this led us to form a football team. Now TSC – Sports, is emerging as a leading child-focused sports coaching project in Tanzania, helping vulnerable children and youth to grow in mind, body and develop their skills. The project has attracted many big teams in Europe like Arsenal FC also Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and the Local Football Association (IDFA & MRFA) support and recognise out project. Tanzania is the only Country apart from South Frica who is the host to participate in the coming Street Child World Cup, 2010 Durban. South Africa, TSC - Sports Academy being a sole representative / participant for the event. Joining Brazil, United Kingdom, Philipines, Nicaragua, India, South Africa, # # # CARETAKERS OF THE ENVIRONMENT TANZANIA (COET) Establishment in 2006, Caretakers of the environment Tanzania (NGO with Reg. No. 14NGO / 1878) has managed to establish unique project. The Tanzania orphans and street children project (based Kuleana Street Children Centre and Tanzania Street Children Sports Project (TSC-Sports Academy). The two project has been set to work for the betterment of children. We are working by supporting street children living on street and at our residential centre providing food, shelter, clothing and education while recruiting local and international volunteers to work with children; But also COET self-reflection and evaluation is to reach wide coverage in the grassroots communities, COET have to mainstream Advocacy for Child rights, HIV AIDS program and Sports coaching with the ideal of coaching and training street children and establish sports development centre for street and vulnerable children.
