Dryer Vent Repair Technician offers Dryer Vent Solutions to Plainfield, Indiana Consumers

Inferior dryer vent systems restrict airflow and lead to lint build-up which is the number one cause of dryer fires

July 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Plainfield, Indiana – Glen Mayfield is the owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of Central Indiana.   Glen recently attended a meeting for small business owners to network and learn about each other’s services.  He explained common problems and solutions with dryer vent exhaust issues.

Glen set up his table to display different materials commonly used by homeowners who install their own dryer exhaust ducts.  “Vinyl is a popular choice because it’s easy to install; however, it tends to sag and allow lint to build up in the low points.  Another problem is that it is often longer than necessary so the excess material is left coiled in a heap behind the clothes dryer.  This completely restricts air flow and causes a fire hazard.”

One person mentioned that his dryer vent system was made of another item on Glen’s table; flexible foil.  “This type also sags or becomes crushed when you push the dryer against the wall,” Glen explained.  Neither flexible foil nor vinyl are considered adequate according to today’s code.”

The solution is to install dryer vent systems made of 4-inch metal ducts that are both rigid and smooth inside.  “Short and straight are the best for an ideal dryer vent exhaust system,” Glen explained.  “The rigid metal material, like what I have here, is smooth inside, it won’t sag or become crushed and it allows maximum airflow required by your dryer.”

‘Dryer Vent Wizard only installs the rigid or semi-rigid, solid metal venting for dryer ducts.  This is connected to the dryer with a metal clamp and joints are sealed with foil tape to prevent dryer exhaust leaks.  Do not use duct tape because it is combustible,” said Mayfield.

Dryer Vent Wizard recommends annual professional dryer vent cleaning to reduce the risk of dryer fires and keep dryers operating efficiently.  “Even the best system will accumulate lint over time,” said Mayfield.  For dryer vent installation and maintenance tips read Glen’s blog at http://dryerventcleaningindianapolis.blogspot.com/
