By: Susan W. Morgan Camp Bow Wow is the premier doggy day care and overnight camp in North America. It’s where a dog and be a dog®, and is designed to provide the highest levels of fun, safety and service for its campers and peace of mind for their parents. Since the Boulder, Colorado-based Company began franchising in 2003; Camp Bow Wow has sold more than 200 franchises in 38 states, plus one in Canada. As we grow our simple philosophy remains the same: It’s all about the dogs! www.campbowwow.com. . Now Alpharetta’s doggy moms and dads can drop off their pooches at Camp for a tail waggin’ good time. Camp Bow Wow understands the bond that many people have with their pets and continually strives to create an atmosphere where dogs can be dogs, and their human folks can rest assured that when they have to run errands, head to work, or just need a little alone time without the “kids,” their little campers will be loved and well cared for at the country’s premier doggy day and overnight camp. For the safety and security of all campers, new arrivals are required to participate in a free interview day at Camp before they can attend on a regular basis. Owners Jeanette and Peter Harris are dedicated to providing the highest caliber of service to all who entrust them with the care of their four-legged friends. “Our goal is to provide a place where dogs have fun and feel loved,” said Peter Harris. “At Camp Bow Wow we’re all about the dogs. They spend their days socializing and playing in our play yards. Think of how much they enjoy outings to the dog park. At the end of the day, the pups are tired, happy and ready to relax.” Curious guardians can peek in on all the shaggy shenanigans in the play yard by logging on to the Camp Bow Wow Alpharetta web site to watch the real-time footage broadcast by one of the many Camper Cams® installed around the Camp. A special Snout Cam®, that’s mounted on a lower level in the small dog play yard broadcasts footage from a dogs-eye view. In order to provide all campers with the highest level of safety and security, all Canine campers must be on flea & tick preventative, neutered or spayed if over six months old, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccinations and have had a Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination within the past 6 months and be in general good health and of sound temperament. Camp Bow Wow Alpharetta has a welcoming environment designed with amenities dogs will do flips over. The 9,400 square-foot, state-of-the- After playing to their hearts content, overnight campers retreat to one of the Camp’s 57 spacious private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and some downtime. The cabins, all furnished with a comfy cot and soft fleece blanket, are large enough to allow several campers from the same family to bunk together if that’s what their families prefer. Guardians are also encouraged to bring their dog’s food from home so they can continue to eat the food they’re used to. Before bedtime, each camper enjoys a tasty Campfire Treat. All campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR and first aid, dog behavior, safety and health management. To ensure the happiness and safety of all campers, the Camp will be staffed with 1 counselor for every 15 campers at all times. The Harris’ have 5 dogs of their own at home: 4 Miniature Schnauzer’s – including one who greatly resembles the pup “Scout” in the Camp Bow Wow logo – and a Swiss Mountain Dog-hound mix named Rufus, who recently made the news. Injured by a bullet, Rufus lost one of his front paws. As his story spread, concerned members of the Alpharetta community rallied together and raised the money to get him a prosthetic leg. When he’s ready, the Harris’ will train him as a Therapy Dog to visit children in local hospitals. “Ever since I was a young girl, dogs have been a source of comfort and inspiration to me,” said Jeanette. “Because of childhood illnesses, I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals and spent many days home from school. Our family dog was always there for me- keeping my mind off of my health ailments by nuzzling her head under my hand throughout the day for lots of scratches behind the ears, neck rubs and, of course, walks in the neighborhood. I have always wanted to give back to my pup pals who helped me through those difficult times.” Camp Bow Wow Alpharetta is already working with a member of Society of Humane Friends in Lawrenceville to foster dogs for adoption and plans to work with other rescue organizations in the area. While preparing to open their Camp, they fostered and found homes for three dogs and look forward to continuing their efforts to help dogs in need.
