July 22, 2009 - PRLog -- The brand new desktop computerhas just arrived and you look at it with glee the first time you turn it on. Within a few moments, generally less than 45 seconds, the computer is up and ready to work. This is what computing is all about and this is how computers should work. It is the same when you turn off the computer. It shuts down quickly. But, as time progresses and you keep on installing more and more programs to the computer, its speed and performance falls drastically.

Though the experienced users are wary of this fact and maintain their computers on a regular basis, what about the poor souls who have no idea about taking care of their computers? After some time they see that it takes ages for their computers to boot and it is the same when they want to turn it off. As you keep on adding new programs to the PC, entries are made in the registry that acts as an index to the location of these programs. When you want to launch a program, the operating system queries the registry and uses information from there to find out the exact location of the program.

A bloated registry slows down your PC Computer and you should be aware of this fact. You should also know that traces of applications remains back in the registry, even after you have uninstalled the same. Apart from this there are the various malwares like viruses, Trojans etc. which slow down your PC. Here are some simple tips that will help you to optimize the performance of your PC.

   * Do not install programs, just because you got them for free. Unless and until you need these programs on a regular basis, it is better that you do not install them.
   * Separate the hard drive into smaller logical partitions. Request the organization from whom you are purchasing the PC to do this.
   * Use the root drive just for installing the operating system. Use another partition for installing other programs, and yet another partition for your data.
   * Always run the disk defragmenter on a regular basis. This might take some time when you run it for the first time, but will complete its task much faster later on.
   * Use a reputed antivirus program on your PC, especially if you are using it to connect to the net. There are a number of free antivirus programs available on the net and you can avail them, if you do not want to spend money.
   * Also use a reputed anti-spyware program. There are free versions available too.
   * Do not use stuffs like keygens or cracks to modify illegal versions of licensed software.
   * Ensure that the backside of your monitor is not in close proximity with a wall or anything else, especially if you are using a CRT monitor. These display units require space for circulating out hot air.
   * Never keep liquids like coffee etc close the keyboard… they might spill over and cause irreparable damage to the keyboard.
   * If in any doubt, call an authorized technician.
