One Female Bites The Dust The Other Won't Quit

No one could predict that while Sarah Palin took a step backwards, Clinton would go from strength to strength.

July 20, 2009 - PRLog -- A week in the political arena is a very long time, as Mark Sanford has just confirmed, with his love-romp in Buenos Aires. He not only risked his job, he has jeopardized any presidential hopes he might have been holding, as well as endangering his Department of Homeland Security Clearance. Sanford has a top-security clearance that permits him to have access to restricted information, such as a likely terrorist peril and emergency circumstances.

Further north the beleaguered Governor of Alaska, media-face Sarah Palin, resigned from her position, for reasons not yet entirely clear, in spite of rumours that circulate wildly. People want to know if she has really set her sights on the presidency run in 2012, or has she destroyed all her bridges behind her?

Although woman politicians have never found the journey easy in a male dominated arena and the pathway is liberally littered with the bones of long gone would-be successful-women-in-power, some still plod on. In particular, Hilary Rodham Clinton is set to see her star beginning to rise, in the world arena.

At the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington, Clinton aims to lift her profile with a major foreign-policy speech, before departing for India. Clinton has been unable to attend two overseas trips, as well as missing the G8 Summit, due to surgery, to repair her damaged elbow. In her ‘down time’ Clinton will been doing a lot of forward planning.

Clinton proudly showed off the official State Department seal on her black arm sling, after falling in the car park, on her way to a conference with President Barak Obama. Clinton is now undertaking intensive physical therapy six times a week. A treatment that will keep on for the next eight weeks.

President Barak and Michele Obama have continued with their overseas trips, in an ongoing program to woo the world.  The weeks have been filled with visits to Iran, Turkey, Russia and London to calling in at the Vatican, Rome (where Michele Obama wore a black head veil in respect of catholic tradition), as well as a date in Paris and visiting an historic slave-trading place in Ghana. The whirlwind courtship has not ceased, with Air Force One turning into a second home (complete with wardrobe).

Clinton will have a long road to go to get closer to the President in the popularity stakes, if her profile is to be truly raised.  Coming from being the main opposing candidate for the position of president, to being taken on as a team player, Clinton has had to work real hard to get the president’s trust. The first six months have been played low key, however this could be about to alter.
