Houston, July 14, 2009—HCA Gulf Coast Division President, Maura Walsh announces the appointment of Rob Heifner as CEO of HCA affiliated Mainland Medical Center. Heifner succeeds Melinda Stephenson who joined HCA affiliated Kingwood Medical Center as CEO in June. Heifner has been with HCA for 15 years most recently serving as COO at HCA affiliated Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas.  He started his career with HCA at HCA affiliated Tulane University Hospital & Clinic serving as Vice President of Operations, a position he held for three years. Prior to that, he served three years as Vice President of Service Line Management, with responsibility for the HCA affiliated Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, and HCA affiliated Tulane Cardiovascular Institute.

“Rob Heifner brings extensive experience to Mainland Medical Center’s already impressive program,” says Walsh. “His strong operations experience and dedication to serve his community will be an asset to Mainland Medical Center. Under his leadership the hospital will continue to provide exceptional healthcare and support strong community relationships.”

During Heifner’s recent tenure at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, he opened a pediatric intensive care unit and launched “Kids Express”, a pediatric outpatient program designed to expand services to children in the community. He also expanded women’s services by opening new satellite women’s clinics. Heifner improved employee satisfaction scores two-years-running and during h is tenure at Tulane University Medical Center, Heifner managed an $80 million hospital rebuilding project following hurricane Katrina.

Heifner holds both a Master of Healthcare Administration from Tulane University and a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University. He served on the board of various non-profit organizations including: The American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, where he served as Board President. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Heifner and his wife Lisa have two sons, Dylan, aged nine, and Ethan, aged four.
