July 13, 2009 - PRLog -- Cuyahoga Falls, OH: In the days before Cuyahoga Falls grew into the wonderful city that it is, the rolling hills were dotted with family farms where dogs worked alongside their guardians and were free to roam the countryside. Now a city where dogs no longer work the day away, they need a place where they can channel that pent up energy. Camp Bow Wow Cuyahoga Falls, the country’s premier doggy day care and overnight camp, is just what the doctor ordered. When Camp Bow Wow Cuyahoga Falls opens at 1403 Main Street on Thursday, July 9, Cuyahoga Falls pups can socialize and play the day away at an upscale facility designed to meet their every need, while their parents are at work, run errands, or are out-of-town on business or vacation.

Camp owners Mike and Virginia Paquette, designed the state-of-the-art, 7,100 square foot camp with 3 large climate-controlled indoor play areas that open to fenced, outdoor play yards so their campers can roam inside and out at will. “The Camp Bow Wow environment is designed to give the dogs in our care the things that are most essential to their well being – lots of exercise, socialization and human interaction. They’re in the play yards all day and never confined to crates or runs. It’s like spending the day at the dog park. That’s why we stress the interview day. It gives us a chance to get to know each pup and to see how they react in group situations.” Older dogs, which tire easily, can chill in their own cabin or at a special old dog lounge when they’ve had enough of the play yard activities.

All campers attending Camp Bow Wow are required to participate in a free interview day before they can attend on a regular basis. Canine campers must be neutered or spayed if over 6-months old, up-to-date on their rabies and distemper vaccinations, be in good general health and have had a Bordetella vaccination with the last six months.

After playing all day, Campers staying overnight retreat to one of the camp’s 42 spacious private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a rest. The cabins, all furnished with a comfy cot and soft fleece blanket, are large enough to allow several campers from the same family to bunk together if they’d like. Doggy parents are encouraged to bring their pup’s food from home so they have the food they’re used to. Before bedtime, each camper enjoys a tasty Campfire Treat.

All Campers at Camp Bow Wow® are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety and health management.  To ensure the happiness and safety of all campers, the camp will be staffed with 1 counselor for every 25 campers at all times. Interested doggy parents can look in on their campers by logging on to Camp Bow Wow Cuyahoga Falls website to watch real-time Camp activities broadcasted by the many Camper Cams® installed throughout the play yards.

A lifelong resident of Ohio, Mike Paquette started thinking about opening a doggy day care facility about 5 years ago after seeing how stressed out his own dogs were from a stay in a traditional kennel. To prepare for his new career, he became a Certified Dog Trainer from the Animal Behavior College in California. He also studied with an animal behavioralist in Cuyahoga Falls for 6 months, worked with the Humane Society for another 6 months and finally as a Dog Trainer with Petco for another year. He says he’s a converted dog lover. “When I first met Virginia, she had two small dogs who didn’t like me so we never developed a rapport. When they passed away and she finally decided it was time for a new dog, we brought home a Black Lab we named Molly. I fell in love with her personality and intelligence – something I’d never really seen in dogs before. And I was hooked.” Not long afterwards, they got a second Lab named Mandy.  Both pups recently passed away, and they plan to dedicate a rainbow bridge at the camp to their memory. Camp Bow Wow Cuyahoga Falls will work with local humane and rescue organizations to foster pups needing new homes.
