Orange County Fair Goers Get In Free With Food Donation on July 15
Orange County Fair goers will receive free admission to the fair on July 15th, 2009 with the donation of five or more non-perishable food items. All food collected will help The Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County meet requests for food.
July 15th Food Drive at the Orange County Fair to help replenish Second Harvest Food Bank supplies
Costa Mesa, CA (July 9, 2009) – Those going to the Orange County Fair on July 15th can get in free—if they bring five nonperishable food items to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The now infamous food drive on Wednesday July 15rd at the Orange County Fair gives food donors FREE same-day admission from noon to 6 p.m. by bringing FIVE non-perishable food items such as canned soup, tuna, peanut butter and cereal to any of the Fair entrances.
Donations from the Yellow, Green and Service gates will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. As the largest hunger-relief organization in the county, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County helps feed more than 200,000 people each month, in partnership with over 400 member charities. Those served include the working poor, children, seniors on fixed incomes, single parents, the disabled, the homeless and those experiencing medical emergencies or recent job layoffs. Last year’s “Say Cheese” OC Fair Food Drive generated over 61,039 pounds of food. With the increased requests for food this year Second Harvest Food Bank in hoping to surpass that this year—with increased donations from fair goers.
Hunger is a growing threat among working and the newly unemployed families across the nation. There are 456,000 people at risk of missing meals each month in Orange County alone. The Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is a certified Affiliate Member of Feeding America, formally America’s Second Harvest, the Nation’s Food Bank Network. For 25 years, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County has distributed over 245 million pounds of safe and nutritious surplus food to those who need it most.
