By: Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center The public Himalayan salt cave in Rutland, Vermont is no longer the only simulated salt cave in North America. Dr. Margaret Smiechowski of the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center and Salt Cave in Rutland announced this week that she has just returned back from building a new Himalayan salt cave in Naperville, IL. The new cave is slated to open by mid-July. This new cave is part of the Timeless Spa, owned and operated by Jody Buckle, and adds speleotherapy, the healing use of salt, to its exciting array of holistic offerings, including massage, Reiki, acupuncture, facials, and more. Although there already was a public salt cave nearby in Chicago that uses other salts, this new cave will focus on the relaxation benefits and the high mineral content of the Himalayan salt. “The new cave is about 12’x26’ and contains about 10,000 pounds of the Himalayan salt. It’s decorated to look like a cave, and has a state-of-the- Smiechowski is no stranger to building salt caves. She has built two of her own already in Rutland, Vermont, and is now working with people around the world to develop new Himalayan salt caves because of their almost-miraculous healing benefits. “The Himalayan salt is perhaps millions of years old and contains all of the minerals that the human body needs to survive. The Himalayan salt is extremely anti-inflammatory, making it an effective treatment for allergies, colds, asthma, skin conditions, and more,” says William Kelley, Ph.D., owner of the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center that opened the first public Himalayan salt cave in North America. “And of course, a bit more controversial is the idea that Himalayan salt gives off negative ions, creating a natural detox for your body.” Touting the healing benefits of Himalayan salt, Smiechowski believes that more salt caves will be popping up around the world. “I can help people create their own speleotherapy rooms in several designs, including the salt cave and salt mine look, a relaxation chamber design, and even a restaurant design.” For more information about Himalayan salt caves, please visit www.pyramidvt.com.
