July 7, 2009 - PRLog -- CHICAGO (June, 2009) – Spring signals a time of commencement, and REALTORS® from across the country recently celebrated their own graduation of sorts, as they completed the National Association of REALTORS®’ Leadership Academy. The commencement ceremonies were held during the 2009 REALTOR® Midyear Legislative Meetings in Washington, D.C.
“REALTORS® are industry innovators and leaders, and the NAR Leadership Academy gives REALTORS® who have the potential to lead the association into the future the tools they need today,” said NAR President Charles McMillan.  “This year’s class proves that NAR’s position as an industry leader is as strong as ever, and that our membership is truly united toward tomorrow.  Everyone at NAR congratulates all of the academy’s graduates.”
The NAR Leadership Academy is a nine-month, five-session training and development program
structured around national REALTOR® meetings.  REALTOR® members who served leadership roles at the local and state level, but who have not yet been actively involved in leadership positions at NAR, are encouraged to apply.  The Leadership Academy helps participants develop their leadership knowledge and abilities to eventually assume a national role.  Candidates are asked to complete an application that includes questions on issues and topics that impact the business of real estate, their civic involvement and leadership aspirations.
An advisory council selected a handful of REALTORS® for the leadership program that began in August 2008 at NAR’s Leadership Summit in Chicago and concluded during the Midyear Legislative Meetings last week in Washington, D.C.  The volunteer leaders were presented to NAR’s Executive Committee as their final confirmation of leadership training.  Faye Nelson of Kennewick, Washington and Jan Ellingson of Burlington, Washington were two of the 27 Realtors to graduate from across the nation in 2009.  These women are two of only three Washington REALTORS to ever graduate from the NAR Leadership Academy.
