RC Bearings To lubricate or not to lubricate?

This article is about the debate about lubricating RC helicopter bearings which has been on the RC news groups for long, this is my personal opinion.

June 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Most of the RC hobby users are testing bearings by spinning bearings in hand, maybe because they have skateboarded or inline skated before, when you test bearings by spinning them with your finger you only get one result, the result is for how free spinning is your bearings. This test can be right for skating, since the skate energy comes from you as a human being. And that's why all skate bearings are usually not lubricated with grease, in fact some of them come dry (with not even oil)

As for the RC, the bearings are powered by motor (either electric or engine) and in both ways you cannot vision the friction associated except with the generate heat, the less the friction the less the heat generated and the more the bearing life span, and of course the more the friction the more the heat generated and the less the bearing span, here is the factors that decrease/increase friction.

1- ABEC rating, the more the ABEC rating, the less friction you will get
2- Material of rings/balls/balls retainer, the less friction material will create less friction
3- lubricant usage, the better lubricant the less friction

I would you use ABEC-7 hybrid ceramic bearings that has silicon nitride balls and nylon low friction retainer you can find them at http://www.vxb.com/ceramic-bearing

Would you use lubricant?, that's your call!
