June 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Much like vintage car lovers, railway enthusiasts are committed to preserving past engineering triumphs. The German Lokomotiv-Club 103 e.V. is one such, a former commuter train locomotive type 110 239-1 now reconstructed as a classic Rheingold locomotive of the E 10 1239 series. In the past, Rheingold trains were the pride of the German railway system. Thanks to the Multimix 2K-PUR coating, which reproduces the splendour of the original, the E 10 1239 now recalls the glory days of the legendary Rheingold trains for everyone to see.

Multimix from Standox (http://standox.com/multimix) can emulate a large number of industrial colours in various paint formats and surface effects. This made it the perfect choice for the restoration of the locomotive from the last century. Built by Siemens and Krauss-Maffei, the E 10 1239 was commissioned in 1962. In order to differentiate it from other engines, it was given an elegant finish in beige and cobalt blue with matching coaches. This unique look distinguished the Rheingold trains, which were then a synonym of fast and comfortable travel, from other passenger trains finished entirely in blue.

However, the E 10 1239 pulled Rheingold trains only for about six months and was then replaced by other locomotives. In the following years, the beautiful locomotive was not only refinished several times, but it was also modified. It was  changed to look like its inconspicuous sisters and a large number of parts were removed. For the railway enthusiasts, returning it to the state of the “Rheingold” days did not only require a total respray, but also a huge effort: some parts were bought while others, like steps and ventilation grids, had to be reconstructed. Altogether, the reconstruction of the Rheingold locomotive took more than six months. However, the result was really worth the effort.

Multimix is the compact mixing paint system from Standox which enabled refinishers to respond to the needs of customers in the industrial sector. It can be adapted to various coating requirements in a flexible and targeted way.
