Since 2004, Datastay has been working with FSMI, helping them to more effectively share information with its member companies electronically while providing powerful search and reporting functionalities. The institute’s members rely on FMSI and access the system for the latest FMSI numbers, part numbers and original equipment (OE) numbers.

The Frictions Materials Standards Institute is a trade association of participants in the automotive aftermarket friction business. This includes both brakes and clutch facings for on-highway vehicles used in North America.

On the weekend of June 5th, 2009, FMSI hosted its annual meeting in Naples, FL, launching the newly enhanced version of its catalogue that includes added functionality specifically designed for their users. The new features leverage the Datastay reporting engine providing powerful filtering and where-used querying functionality. Also provided are both technical drawings and diagrams along with added product photographs.

Pat Healey, FMSI Executive Director stated “With the latest version of the FMSI catalogue our members have greater control over how they search and find the information that is vital to their business.Within the FMSI electronic catalog, users are able to see photographs of the original equipment along with CAD illustrations of the disc, drum and clutch friction assemblies.”

To illustrate the features and functionality of the FMSI catalogue to both members and prospective members, an on-line video walkthrough can be accessed and viewed at http://www.fmsi.org/ under "Electronic Catalog".

About Frictions Materials Standards Institute (FMSI):

The Friction Materials Standards Institute was founded in 1948 as a trade association of participants in the automotive aftermarket friction business. This included both brakes and clutch facings for on-highway vehicles used in North America.

There are two objectives of the Friction Materials Standards Institute:

- To develop, maintain, and promulgate for use by its members and their customers a standardized part numbering system for brake friction, backing plates, drum shoes, and clutch facings used in on-highway automotive and heavy duty vehicle applications.

- To disseminate to its members such scientific, engineering, technological, statistical and other relevant information as it may obtain in the public domain pertaining to brake linings, clutch facings, and the said industry.

Membership in FMSI is open to any manufacturer of friction and related products covered by the trademarked FMSI and FMS part numbers. Other participants in this industry may be eligible for licensee membership.
