Follow on Google News | Fight For Hiv/Aids : TCEAIDS has already killed millions of people, millions more continue to become infected with HIV, and there's no cure for AIDS – so AIDS and HIV will be around for a while yet.
By: deepali Field Officers are local people who are trained in the fight against HIV/AIDS, through one on one educational campaign. A field officer is responsible for the behavioural change of 2000 people over a period of three years. The Total Control of the Epidemic programme in Namibia is covering 5 Northern Regions of Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Kavango, reaching over 900 000 people. Johanna Autanga is field officer in Outapi Constituency and participated in Total Control of the Epidemic quarterly gathering held in Oshakuti and Eenhana on the 24th of June. The quarterly meetings started with an HIV/AIDS awareness march in the streets of Oshakuti and Eenhana on the 23rd of June. Johanna had this to share to other field officers from her experiences and challenges. I am a field officer in Outapi Constituency and I would like to share my experience and challenges for the past 3 months. I realised that being a field officer demands knowledge, energy, love and passion for people. It is important to be open-minded and understand people’s views and use these as basis in educating the people. The right knowledge and information is key in the day-to-day education of people. The most important of all is to be a role model in your community, to live the life that you are teaching people. With all our concerted efforts I see Total Control of the Epidemic, as the most successful HIV/AIDS programme in Namibia. The Total Control of the Epidemic Programme is a project by Development Aid from People to People in Namibia, a member of the Federation of Associations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement, involved in international cooperation and development. The Total Control of the Epidemic project in Namibia is also taking care of the HIV/AIDS infected and the affected people, through programs such as orphans care, passion for people movement, and income generating activities. http://humana.org End
