The World’s Most Priceless Dogs

June 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Protection Dogs International (PDI) is set to run their first Regional Trial.  NW Working Dogs will host this trial on June 13 and 14, 2009, St. Helens, OR, Columbia County Fairgrounds.

Some of the most invaluable and coveted dogs in the world will convene to show why they are so priceless.  Protection dogs are sold for upwards of $250,000 depending on their level of training.  Why?  Because your family’s safety is worth it.   In this current economy, it is sad but true that murder and violent crimes are on the rise in nearly every city.  Gun sales are skyrocketing and crimes ranging from petty to serious thefts are booming.  Nobody wants to be a victim.  The common thread amongst the victims: they didn’t own a trained dog.

This trial is one of the places where you can see if your dog can really do its job in the moment.  The dogs are tested with reality-based life scenarios which are designed to test the dog’s training and skills in protecting its handler and/or premises.  Some dogs can even secure and transport your bad guy for you, a la’ police K9.  Each level is increasingly difficult to master and the threats become more violent, escalating to such scenarios as a threat with a gun and a car jacking.

Above being able to help you in the face of danger, a true protection dog is well-rounded for all aspects of your life.  They are highly trained obedience dogs too!  Obedience skills are tested using many obstacles and barriers to make sure that the obedience is “fool-proof”.  Nobody wants an unruly dog running amuck and these trials make sure that the dog is sound and under your control.

Additional enhancements include obtaining such titles as the Canine Good Citizen, which ensures the dog can behave in public, and the American Temperament Test Society certification, which measures a dog’s raw instinct to various stimuli ranging from friendly strangers to a gunshot to strange footing, all ensuring that your dog is confident under varying stresses.  If your dog is gifted enough to obtain both of these certifications as well as mastering a level of PDI, your dog can be titled as a “Balanced Dog” – the ultimate protection dog and community citizen!
