Office: 267.237.6924 and 267.974.4093 Email: phillybodyworkcollective@ Affordable Bodywork and Reiki Now Available in Philadelphia Philadelphia, PA June 3, 2009 – The Philadelphia Bodywork Collective is now offering Bodywork and Reiki on an affordable sliding payment scale. Their services include Thai Massage, Shiatsu, Reflexology, and Reiki. Thai Massage uses range of motion, acupressure, kneading and rocking motions for both relaxation and rejuvenation. It increases flexibility, reduces stress, improves circulation, and creates an overall awareness of one’s physical and mental body. Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork based in Traditional Chinese Medicine and uses joint rotation and finger pressure along the meridians (energy channels). Shiatsu is often deeply relaxing and great at reducing pain. Reflexology uses the reflex points on your hands and feet to stimulate the corresponding organs in the body and is helpful for a wide array of conditions. Reiki is a Japanese practice effective for stress relief, to speed healing, and to support emotional wellbeing. Practitioners are trained to use the palms of their hands to direct healing energy gently to the client. The Philadelphia Bodywork Collective is a group of certified practitioners who believe that social entrepreneurship combined with bodywork can change not only our community but the world at large. All services are provided in a comfortable group setting, which is how many forms of bodywork were originally practiced. In all of the modalities offered, the clients are completely clothed. Clients use a modest “sliding payment scale”, or variable suggested fee, to determine a modest yet meaningful exchange. The practitioners involved feel that this serves to neutralize financial and societal barriers to receiving high quality therapeutic bodywork. With their sliding payment scale, clients can be treated more frequently; allowing them to reap the full benefits of these ancient healing arts. According to Vanessa Hazzard-Tillman, “Offering my services this way gives me the opportunity to treat people who may never otherwise have an opportunity to benefit from it.” Vanessa practices Thai Yoga Massage, Reflexology and Reiki. Hawthorne Yoga & Reiki, located at 1241 Carpenter Street, will serve as host to the Collective. Hawthorne opened its doors in April of this year and offers a full, diverse schedule of Yoga classes-all on a budget friendly “pay what you can” basis. The space also offers affordable comprehensive Reiki Certification Training, continuing education, meditations & shares. "Reiki is simple and effective practice of hands on healing with no side effects. By simplifying how we offer it, we can help more people achieve health and wellness." Danielle, the Reiki Teacher & Share Host at Hawthorne Yoga & Reiki, will offer her Reiki services through the Collective. Sessions will be available every second and fourth Saturday from 5-8pm at Hawthorne Yoga & Reiki. Hours and locations will expand as they grow. All appointments must be made in advance, and are to be scheduled directly with the practitioner. More information is available on their website, http://phillybodyworkcollective.wordpress.com. There will be a free workshop to introduce the public to the forms of bodywork offered, and explain who can most benefit from each practice. The workshop, “Introduction to Bodywork & Reiki ”, will be held at Hawthorne Yoga & Reiki June 20, 2009 from 2-4pm. # # # We provide bodywork & reiki on a sliding payment scale is used to determine a modest yet meaningful exchange.
