June 5, 2009 - PRLog -- So it looks like the Pittsburgh Pirates are on their way to their 18th consecutive losing season. Earlier today, the Pittsburgh Pirates traded all-star and gold glove winner Nate McLouth to the Atlanta Braves. Nate McLouth was exchanged for three minor league prospects that probably won’t play for another five years. Neil Huntingdon, general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates once said they were building their team around Nate McLouth and that he was the cornerstone for the Pittsburgh Pirates in years to come. Well what happened? Do the Pittsburgh Pirates not care about winning? Are they really that cheap and do not care about the quality of the players they get in return? And if Nate McLouth is gone now who’s the next to leave by the trading deadline? Jack Wilson? Zach Duke? Ryan Doumit?

Last year, the same thing happened with Jason Bay and Xavier Nady. Although, Xavier Nady is on the disabled list in New York the same is not for Jason Bay who is currently having the best year of his career with the Boston Red Sox. Jason Bay has a .283 average with 16 homeruns and 51 RBI’s and has been a major contributor to their team. Jason Bay even leads all American League outfielders in all-star ballot votes with 729,520 and that number will only climb. So some of us are sitting here and probably thinking what does the Pirate organization think? I know exactly what they think. The cheaper the better no matter what even if that means attendance drops and all star caliber players leave. Well at least they still have hot dogs for a dollar.

In other baseball news the Atlanta Braves released 300 career winner Tom Glavine. According to Tom Glavine, he does not want to retire but doesn’t know what other options he has left. Also, Randy Johnson or more commonly known as “The Big Unit” is looking for his 300th win. However, it’s on hold despite a huge rainstorm happening in Washington, DC at Nationals Park.
