Sunflower Footsteps is growing a garden of books

Local Authors Launch Two Titles and Establish Website

June 4, 2009 - PRLog -- Marion, OH - Sunflower Footsteps, a writing endeavor and website created by J.E. Seanachaí and E. Michaels, is growing a garden of books in Marion, OH.  The venture to create meaningful fiction for children and adults was inspired by the team’s love of writing, reading, and gardening.  “We were searching for a way to compile and display our works,” Michaels explains, “and Sunflower Footsteps was the result.”

The two-author team writes and designs each book crafted through the Sunflower Footsteps pursuit of writing.  Each book wields a striking emblem, a five-headed grey stripe sunflower.   Seanachaí elaborates, “When I found this five-headed giant growing in my garden I knew I had an exceptional specimen.  What I didn’t know was that it would become a symbol of our writing.”

“I was an avid reader as a child, enjoying long books so they wouldn’t end so fast,” Michael says,” and I have always wanted to write.”  Seanachaí concurs, adding, “I was no more than seven years old when I discovered a typewriter.  My fingers bore many scrapes from slipping between the keys.”

Sunflower Footsteps currently features two titles, Dead Bird in the Weeds by J.E. Seanachaí and The Mysterious House by E. Michaels.  Both exhibit the writers’ distinct styles and voices.

Dead Bird in the Weeds is a work of historical fiction recounting the 1798 rebellion in Ireland.  Set in Wexford, the story relates the tale of a courageous young woman named Aisling Doran who joins the revolutionary United Irishmen to wage war for liberty.  This literary work was inspired by the author’s Irish heritage and love of history and folklore.  “Dead Bird in the Weeds is not solely for those interested in Irish history,” Seanachaí says, “nor is it exclusively for those drawn to stories of rebellion.  It is a tale that also encompasses additional facets of the human existence such as betrayal, courage, and self-worth.”

Seanachaí’s colleague, E. Michaels, began a writing career with The Mysterious House, the first book in the Fox Mystery Series for children.  “It’s a story about three fifth graders and their discovery of a mystery surrounding an old, abandoned house,” Michaels explains.  The Mysterious House urges children to read by engrossing them in solving a puzzling neighborhood mystery, “and I firmly believe mysteries can evoke the response of wanting to read,” Michaels concludes.  Although published in 2009 as an introductory title,  The Mysterious House dates back more than two decades.  It was first written as a serial story for the author’s children.  “Their enthusiasm prompted me to write daily,” Michaels remembers.

Sunflower Footsteps’ upcoming titles by E. Michaels include the Appalachian Boys Mysteries, a children’s series involving two mischievous friends and their adventures in the country, and the Feel Good Series, stories for younger readers to encourage self-confidence.  Within the Feel Good Series titles are stories to color and activities to complete.  A future work of nonfiction by J.E. Seanachaí consists of a collection of true family stories and experiences delving into the macabre and unexplained, entitled Haunted Voices from My Past:  True Narratives of an Ohio Family.
