The event was held on Friday, 29TH May 2009 at The Magellan Sutera, Sutera Harbour Resort. YAB Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman and YABhg Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin were the guests of honour. Supporting the evening of splendour is a concert by The Australian Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive Tribute Bee Gees show, renowned worldwide for their definite performance of all the classic Bee Gees songs from the sixties. The group members: Michael Clift (Barry Gibb – vocals and guitar), Wayne Hosking (Maurice Gibb – vocals, guitar, keyboard), Dave Scott (Robin Gibb – vocals), Tony Richards (Bass guitar) and Mike Mitchell (vocals and drums) mesmerized the crowd with their brilliant performances of the Bee Gees’ hits such as Jive Talkin’, Massachusetts, Stayin’ Alive and How Deep Is Your Love; the theme of this year’s event. Among the items on the programme for the charity dinner, is an auction of painting by local artists. The artists include Tina Rimmer, Zaimie Sahibil, Dzulkilfli Abdul Rahman, Francis Cheong, Edoen Kang and Christianne Goonting. All proceeds from the auction of their painting will be donated to the PCA. Another highlight of the night is the draw of the Raffles ticket in aid of The Palliative Care Association. The lucky winner will win the exclusive Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m “Quantum of Solace” limited edition watch personally donated by YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, the Chief Minister of Sabah. The PCA Charity Dinner & Concert is an annual event held to raise fund for the Palliative Care Association the association provides financial, medical and counselling assistance at no charge to patients of advanced incurable cancers and their families. As such, PCA relies on events such as the charity dinner and concert fundraiser and donations to enable it to continue to provide valuable services. PCA affirms life and takes death as a natural process. It neither hastens death nor prolongs life. It allows the patient to live to the fullest until the last possible moment of his or her life. Medical assistance available at the home ranged from use of wheelchairs and ripple mattresses to prevent bedsores to oxygen breathing units and basic medical examinations. For those truly in need, PCA also provides financial assistance to the best of its capabilities. But PCA’s greatest impact can be felt in the love and assurance it gives its beneficiaries through counselling and therapeutic offerings, which form part of their day care centre services. The objectives of the day care centre are to provide stimulation and enjoyment through activities which focus on individual needs and choices, respite care for carers, opportunities for patients to interact with other patients and volunteers, and to provide psycho-social support and alleviate feelings of isolation. Activities include portrait drawings, indoor games, music and dance as well as aromatherapy massages for which the volunteers receive training from visiting UK affiliates.
