Detour Becomes First Hispanic Communications Firm Certified B Corporation

Detour Agency Inc, the marketing and communications agency for the Hispanic Community, recently became the first Hispanic-focused communications firm to earn B Corporation Certification.

June 2, 2009 - PRLog -- IRVINE, California > B Corporations are a new type of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. Unlike companies whose principle focus is the bottom line, B Corporations are purpose-driven. They strive to benefit not only shareholders but all stakeholders such as the company’s employees, community, and the environment.

To become certified B Corporations, businesses must do two things:  meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards and amend their corporate governing documents to incorporate the interests of employees, community and the environment.

“Being a successful business and having a social impact are not mutually exclusive,” said Detour Founder and Creative Director, Gueri Segura. “Detour seeks to create consciousness of sustainable brands among the Hispanic Community, by helping purpose-driven enterprises with marketing and communications efforts... Becoming a B Corporation accents our commitment to the community and the environment.”

Detour introduces sustainable brands to the Hispanic Community through creative marketing and branding strategies. The world is changing fast and we believe that by supporting and advocating social and environmental responsible brands, we can reach a more conscious and sustainable world.

“Detour is an admirable company for their commitment to support value-centered companies and organizations,” said B Lab co-founder Bart Houlahan.  “They will make a great partner for companies interested in expanding their market to the Hispanic Community.”

About B Lab

B Lab is the nonprofit organization that certifies, supports, and promotes B Corporations. An independent body, the Standards Advisory Council, sets the legal and performance standards for B Corporation certification and oversees the evolution of those standards and the auditing of B Corporations.

In just over 18 months, the community of B Corporations has grown to over 190 Certified B Corporations that represent approximately $1B in collective marketplace, 31 different industries, and 26 different states.   B Lab envisions a new sector of the economy which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. This sector will be comprised of a new type of corporation - the B Corporation. B Corporations will be legally recognized by the states, tax preferred by the IRS, and valued by investors and consumers. In our generation, this marketplace of B Corporations will reach 5-7% of US GDP -- the size of the non-profit sector today.
