May 28, 2009 - PRLog -- DHARMA SUBHASHITA (Thubten Lekshey Ling) Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Meditation and Study Center (www.dharmasubhashita.org) is organizing a one-day workshop on Meditations from Mahayana Buddhism for Peace and Wisdom. The acclaimed master Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche, affectionately known as Khenpo Guru, will be teaching this.

This workshop will introduce the participants to the two types of meditations from the Mahayana Buddhism - Shamata (calm-abiding) and Vipashyana (special-insight, pali: vipassana). During shamata meditation, we train to calm the thoughts that continuously arise, one after the other, like waves on the ocean. With this practice, peace of the mind is attained and primordial awareness shines forth. During vipashyana, we examine the mind and its source. By penetrating the surface level of thoughts and emotions, we recognize the true nature of the mind - unborn, unceasing and free from concepts. When the mind relaxes in its natural state, all usual perceptions of solid existence are experienced as nothing more than a dream. Developing shamata and vipashyana needs regular practice. The workshop includes general explanation of shamata (calm-abiding) and vipashyana (special-insight, pali: vipassana) practice as in Mahayana Buddhism as well as specific instructions on how to begin the practice of shamata.

The program will be conducted at Ashirvad, St. Marks Road Cross, Opposite SBI, St. Marks Road, Bangalore from 10:00am to 5:00pm on 30th of May. There will be a follow-up practice session on the next day. This workshop is open to all and free of charges.
