Herby Sausages Win a National Vegetarian Week Taste Test

A taste test in London finds the best vegetarian products for 2009, whilst a Festival in Bristol proves that an ethical, healthy, more environmentally friendly lifestyle can be more than just fun

May 27, 2009 - PRLog -- With new evidence that a plant based diet can not only be better for human health but also for the health of the planet , campaigners are earnestly promoting their solution with great success.

They say we have run out of excuses not to be vegetarian in 2009.

The United Nations scientists have shown that eating meat is even worse for the environment than driving a car.

Oxford University have shown that people who eat the least amount of meat have far lower chances than average of getting key killer chronic diseases.

Commentators in national press have shown how eating meat increases suffering for the world's poor as arable land is used to grow food for livestock rather than humans.

Economists have suggested using meat for food is economically unsustainable long term.

"Ethical and sustainable alternatives to meat are now so advanced the average meat eater can't tell they are vegetarian" claims author of a new vegan cookbook Tony Bishop-Weston

At a sausage tasting event held at Tibits Restaurant in London judges rated Redwood's cheatin sausage as the overall winner on taste with Cauldron and Frys from Beanies close behind on points.

Most of the judges commented that they preferred the herby tasting sausages.

Bishop-Weston whose book, The Complete Book of Vegan Cooking (by Lorenz £16.99) will be demonstrating recipes from his new cook book at The Bristol Vegan Fayre that last year attracted 12,000 visitors from all over the world.

The Bristol Festival not only has the UK's best veggie sausages in the world, but also offers vegan fish and chips, vegan icecream, vegan chocolate, vegan chocolate cake, muffins and cupcakes and even innovative new health products such as alternatives to omega 3 richfish oil made from algae and echium oil

There is an impressive line up of live music bands at the Bristol vegan fare with The Blockheads and an impressive lineup of Reggae and Blues bands.
