May 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Edgemont, PA—Matrix Medical Communications (MMC) is pleased to announce that its peer-reviewed journal, Psychiatry (Edgemont), will be published exclusively in digital format. Keeping in line with the journal’s mission of bridging the gap between research and practice, Psychiatry (Edgemont) will strengthen its presence globally through the ease of electronic access and reach clinicians all over the world.

MMC will focus on disseminating critical, evidence-based information to practicing clinicians electronically, with the website www.psychiatrymmc.com serving as the journal’s cornerstone vehicle.

“I am very pleased that, with this change, we can extend the educational value of the journal globally,” says Amir H. Kalali, MD, Editor of Psychiatry (Edgemont). “Outside of the United States, there is a great unmet need for the type of information the journal provides for clinicians. Feedback from our Editorial Advisory Board and readers has also enthusiastically encouraged a move to a digital format,” says Kalali.

“It is not enough to preserve the content of the publication on a library shelf,” says Elizabeth Klumpp, Vice President/Executive Editor, MMC. “Electronically disseminating the content of this journal broadens the circulation, reaching far-away places—something we couldn’t do with the printed piece.”

Furthermore, the electronic-only format eliminates the negative environmental effects of producing a printed journal. Says Klumpp, “Our readers consistently go to the website to access our archives, not to the paper version. Considering the environmental impact, do we really want to continue producing thousands of pounds of paper every month when our readers are accessing the same material online?”

“Over the past three years, there has been double-digit growth in the number of physicians reading online medical journals” says Robert Dougherty, President/Publisher, MMC. “This trend is expected to continue and Psychiatry (Edgemont) is poised to grow with the market and provide readers with high-quality, customizable content. We have been building our digital presence over the past year and we believe now is the time to transition to a full-time digital format, extending the reach of Psychiatry (Edgemont).”

Psychiatry (Edgemont) through its website, www.psychiatrymmc.com, will continue to offer users free access to the peer-reviewed journal articles clinicians have come to rely on for information on the latest research, treatment options, and discussions on trends in the fields of psychiatry and CNS. The enhanced website, scheduled to launch June 1, will include new, value-added features that will roll out over the next few months, such as weekly blogs from leaders in the field, moderated discussion forums, employment postings, marketplace news that highlight products, services, and trends in the industry, and personalized e-newsletters. The website will also feature the e-Edition of the journal for users who prefer to read the journal content in a format similar to the printed version.

Psychiatry (Edgemont) is indexed with PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL® Plus with Full Content, EMBASE, and Scopus. Submission of peer-reviewed content to these indexing services will continue as it did with the print edition. The online manuscript submission process will not change.
