May 23, 2009 - PRLog -- ShelterBox, with the help of SAS Pavement Artists brought a 3D natural disaster to the public in Victoria Station on Saturday 23rd May 2009.  The international disaster relief charity, which specialises in emergency shelter provision hosted their Big Green Box Week between the 18th and 25th of May 2009, culminating in the Victoria Station natural disaster recreation event and the invitation only exclusive drinks and canapés hosted aboard the HMS President.

The 3D natural disaster at Victoria Station was a major attraction for the public and created mass awareness for ShelterBox.  The 3D artwork, created within the station brought the public as close as possible to a real life disaster situation, and provided ShelterBox with the opportunity to interact with the public highlighting the important work they do when a disaster strikes.  The artwork recreated the image of a cavernous breach in the station’s floor and was a traffic-stopping occurrence as the full 3D effect was brought to life with cameras and literally hundreds photos taken by passersby during the hours of the event.

The charity’s aim to involve as many members of the public in a real life disaster (without the real danger) as possible while showcasing the dedication of their volunteers and content of their benchmark survival boxes was fully realized.  Tom Henderson Founder/CEO of ShelterBox as well as a number of SRT’s with field experience were available for interviews and interacted with the public at the event.

ShelterBox is known for their instant response to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict disasters by delivering their boxes of aid where they are most needed.  Each of these amazing life-saving boxes can supply an extended family of up to ten people with a tent and quality survival equipment to use while they are displaced.

The cost of a box is £490, including the delivery directly to those who need it.  Every Big Green Box bears its own unique number so that a donor can track their relief box all the way to its recipient country, via www.shelterbox.org, giving the charity full disclosure and transparency with up to 90% of the organisations funds being delivered as direct aid.

These remarkable life-saving boxes are delivered by the organisation’s highly trained ShelterBox disaster response teams, who distribute the boxes on the ground, working closely with local organisations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide.
