May 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Leverkusen/Shanghai –The German specialty chemicals group LANXESS AG has officially launched the Levatherm Fluororubber product in Asia.  Guenther Weymans, head of the Technical Rubber Products business unit at LANXESS, made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the second phase of the company’s Rubber Research Center (RRCQ) in Qingdao, China.

The Asia launch marks an important step following the agreement between LANXESS and the Russian rubber manufacturer Halopolymer, Moscow, on the global distribution of fluororubbers. Under the agreement, LANXESS will offer a range of specialty rubbers to the fluororubbers market under the name Levatherm F.

In addition to the existing LANXESS sales network, a team of experts specializing in marketing and technical service will support the product’s success in Asia.

Weymans said, “The demand for higher performance specialty chemical solutions is on the rise in Asia, given the region’s remarkable progress in the fields of industrial engineering, science and technology. The addition of fluororubbers to our portfolio ensures that LANXESS has exactly the right elastomers for an even wider range of highly specialized applications.”

Fluororubbers have a global market volume of more than 20,000 metric tons per year. They are used in aerospace, the automotive industry, oil extraction and process engineering for making seals, hoses, diaphragms, and sealing plugs. This is because they offer a set of features and benefits that overcome extreme conditions. Notably, fluororubbers are extremely resistant to chemicals and heat. For example, they can withstand service temperatures of up to 260 °C.  They are also very resistant to aggressive liquids.  These advantages make them ideal for applications in which other types of rubber are pushed to their very limits.
