FT. WORTH, TX (MAY 19, 2009) – Sixteen-year-old Malcolm Cairo is armed, dangerous and glad to have a new weapon in his arsenal, thanks to a local mentorship program.  “It’s taught me a lot, like how to solve problems and confrontations without physical violence,” said Cairo.  The O.D. Wyatt student credits the program with preparing him for job interviews, professional communication and how to be a gentleman to worthy young ladies.

For the past several months Cairo has been mentored by Junichi Lockett, a Life Consultant with Gentlemen’s Society.  “Most people wouldn’t waste their time during the day but he comes to teach us,” said Cairo.

“Before we can go forward and accomplish anything in life, we must first believe that we can be more than what we are right now,” said Lockett. Lockett is a teacher, mentor, father, son and brother who is leading a movement to empower young adults to pursue a purpose bigger than their present circumstances. He also teaches at A.M. Pate Elementary in Fort Worth and mentors teens weekly.

As an Iraq war veteran, Lockett applies his understanding of battle missions to fighting for local youth. He has translated his experiences into a blueprint for building young leaders by balancing education, empowerment and entertainment. This month Lockett debuts his book, “Soldier Mentality,” at The Dock Book Shop in east Fort Worth. The purpose of the book is to arm young males and their mentors with the intellectual tools necessary to develop future leaders, like Cairo.

“In the United States Marine Corps, we moved forward in confidence, truly believing that no matter what obstacles faced us, we would remain in pursuit of our mission. We had embraced the solider mentality,” said Lockett.  In the book he also shares his story of restoration after wasting precious time and talents. “I’m a soldier with the strength in my shoulders to hold boulders and move mountains!”
