Flowcrete’s Deckshield Drives Up At Tropicana Mall, Malaysia

May 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Located in one of the busiest suburbs of Malaysia’s cosmopolitan capital Kuala Lumpur, the new Tropicana City Mall offers a vibrant and hi-tech environment for retailers, business users and shoppers alike. Developed by Dijaya Land Sdn Bhd, the upmarket neighbourhood Mall is located in the heart of the bustling city suburb known as Petaling Jaya and provides a mix of retail space and office towers, all housed in a modern complex complete with an eye-catching glass frontage.

In keeping with the contemporary environment, the entire car parking area, comprising 2,200 bays, has been installed with Flowcrete’s specialist car park decking system Deckshield, to deliver a bright, pleasant ambience.

As Flowcrete’s Director of Sales Desmond Sin explained, the client selected Flowcrete’s polyurethane Deckshield system over an epoxy system following visits to a number of Flowcrete reference sites around Kuala Lumpur.  “The client was able to see first hand the performance of Deckshield and that it was the most appropriate system for Tropicana City.” Deckshield’s waterproof properties, high durability and gloss finish with ease of cleaning were among the factors that finalised the selection. “Also, with our manufacturing and installation operations under the one Flowcrete umbrella, we were able to provide a single source warranty, a further comfort factor for the client,” added Mr Sin.

The use of various Deckshield formulations on the internal structure of the car park has enhanced the visual appearance and improved light reflectivity, while enabling traffic flow to be safely controlled through the use of the Deckshield Linemarker system. “As well as creating a safer and more pleasant ambience, the light reflective properties of Deckshield help reduce electricity consumption, delivering significant cost savings for property owners and car park operators,” noted Mr Sin. The profiled anti-skid surface helps to minimise tyre squeal and reduce noise pollution.

Offering high chemical and abrasion resistance, the hard-wearing, crack-bridging properties of Deckshield also ensure that ongoing structural maintenance can be kept to a minimum. “These factors combine with our ten year warranty on materials and installation to give customers additional peace of mind,” added Mr Sin. Deckshield is one of the only systems of its kind to be certified to the stringent American Standards Testing specification ASTM C957.

The Flowcrete Malaysia team was required to work to a very tight schedule in order to complete the installation totalling nearly 80,000 square metres in time for the handover to the client.
