Careers in the US Foreign Service promoted in PM World Today

US State Department seeks Project Management professionals interested in Foreign Service Careers
By: PMForum

May 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Dallas, Texas — PMForum, Inc announced today that the U.S. Department of State has become a sponsor and advertiser for PMForum and PM World Today in order to attract professionals from the project management field to careers in the U.S. Foreign Service.  The effort began on 1 May 2009 with a notice on PMForum’s PMFlight Services website and in the monthly PM World Today eJournal where banner ads can lead readers to career opportunities with the State Department.

The U.S. Department of State is America’s lead foreign affairs agency, leveraging its positive influence to promote global peace and prosperity. Its role is pivotal in ushering in a new era of American diplomacy, moving foreign policy forward and in a direction that is smart and sound, pragmatic and principled.  The Foreign Service is America’s voice overseas - serving the country’s diplomatic needs at over 265 embassies, consulates and missions to international organizations. Over 11,000 strong, they are America’s first line of defense in this complex world, and the first responders to U.S. citizens in other countries.

According to PMForum Managing Editor David Pells, “We commend the U.S. State Department for recognizing that successful project managers generally have a good set of general management capabilities and experience.  Project management professionals also tend to be well educated, highly self motivated and trained in team leadership approaches, skills that would seem relevant and useful in the Foreign Service arena.  We are also happy that they have selected our websites for promoting career opportunities at the State Department; we hope we can help find some good people.”

Foreign Service Officers (FSOs) advocate American foreign policy, protect U.S. citizens abroad, and promote American business interests abroad. FSOs often apply the skills and experiences they acquired in the private sector to one of five challenging career tracks. Presently, there is a worldwide need for: (1) Management Officers, who help run an embassy, consulate or other diplomatic post; (2) Economic Officers, who help America protect and advance U.S. interests abroad; and (3) Consular Officers, who help Americans and welcome foreign citizens.

A Foreign Service career is a rewarding way of life, offering outstanding benefits, opportunities and occasional hardships. Show the world a side of America it has never seen – You!  For more information about CAREERS REPRESENTING AMERICA, visit Careers.state.gov.
