ABC’s Good Morning America to host World Champion Horseshoe Pitcher, Alan Francis

14-time NHPA World Champion, Alan Francis, of Defiance, Ohio to instruct ABC anchors in horseshoe pitching for live, on-air competition.

May 8, 2009 - PRLog -- NHPA World Horseshoe Pitching Champion, Alan Francis and his wife Amy will be making an appearance on GOOD MORNING AMERICA, Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

During the week of May 11 through 15, the show will be holding a “Battle of the Anchors” with experts appearing live to instruct the anchor people in their respective sport or activity. The week culminates with live competition among the anchors on Friday, May 15.

The NHPA has been invited to provide “experts” in horseshoe pitching.  We are sending the very best!  Alan and Amy will be making the trip to New York City courtesy of ABC, along with NHPA 2nd Vice President, Tina Hawkins, to promote the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association on national television.

Alan is 14-time NHPA Men’s World Horseshoe Pitching Champion. He currently maintains an 89.5% ringer average.

In 2009, the NHPA is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its World Championship tournaments. This year’s competition is in Springfield, Illinois, July 27 through August 8.

Horseshoe pitching is for all ages. Scholarship opportunities are available for youth pitchers.

The horseshoes for this segment have been donated by the St. Pierre Manufacturing Company in Worcester, MA.  After Friday’s competition, they will be shipped to U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
