April 29, 2009 - PRLog -- We’ve been asked to talk hygiene. Our Toronto beauty salons and our Mississauga salons and spas have asked us to discuss the does and don’ts of getting your nails done. Our Thornhill salons weighed in on the discussion to.
Receiving a manicure or pedicure should be a safe and pleasant experience. You should feel pampered and looked after say our Toronto salons and day spas. Our Woodbridge salons and day spas say that if anything about a salon or spa makes you uncomfortable, you should ask questions about infection prevention practices and be prepared to refuse the service, if necessary.

Our Thornhill salons and spas say that a nail salons should offer well-lit, clean work areas and tools that are maintained in good repair and not rusty and old looking.
Our Woodbridge salons tell us that all tools must be cleaned and disinfected before and after use. Ask salon staff how they clean and disinfect their tools. The city of Toronto specifies that acceptable disinfectants for tools that may penetrate the skin or come in contact with blood or body fluids are 70-90% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol or 1:100 bleach solution. Tools must be cleaned, and then immersed in disinfectants for at least 10 minutes. UV “sterilizers” or glass (hot) bead “sterilizers” are not acceptable methods of disinfection.
Our Richmond Hill salons remind us that any item that cannot be disinfected (e.g., wood nail files, toe separators, pumice stones and Birchwood sticks) cannot be used on more than one client.
Our Woodbridge salons follow the simple rule of make sure razor blades used for pedicures are pre-packaged, sterile and single-use.
Our Toronto salons always make sure clean towels are provided and that salon staff are required to clean their hands between clients. Clients receiving manicures should also clean their hands.
Our Richmond Hill hair salons and day spas say that clients’ nails should be examined for discoloration before starting any procedure. If a nail is discoloured (i.e. yellow-green), no service or treatment for nail mould or fungus should be provided. The client should be advised to see a doctor.
And of course our best Mississauga hair salons and day spas always make sure that all lotions and creams must be dispensed in a manner that does not contaminate the remaining lotion or cream. And yes foot baths must be cleaned and disinfected between clients.
If you want to be sure that you are dealing with a reputable place that follows these basic hygiene rules then you must go to www.completebeautylist.com. Our salons and day spas listed always follow the rules and procedures set out to make sure that the client feels good about the services rendered. Our site lists in detail hair salons and spas in the GTA.
