April 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Let's face it.....It isn't easy trying to find something special at Mother's Day.  We all know we can't go empty handed, but we also don't want to get the same thing every time.  What should we do ?

Often times the flowers we get are beautiful....yes....but Mother's Day the message that accompanies the flowers wilts as fast as the Mother's Day flowers do.  Most mom's won't remember what you got them once the last chocolate is devoured or the bouquet hits the garbage can.

Mother's Day isn't about a gift, it is about the message you send.  If you deliver a message that touches your mother's heart and give her thanks for all she's done for you, she'll remember that much longer than the flowers that go in the rubbish a few day after they are delivered.

So how does one make Mother's Day special ?  How does one deliver a touching message?  How does one make a routine gift something special ?  The message is one that must convey your heartfelt feelings about your mother.  To convey such a message is a daunting task for the mere mortal.  Luckily many poets have graced the earth and have a gift to illustrate their feelings and put those emotions into print.  They allow the reader to feel what they feel.  Unfortunately these poets are few and far between.  Maya Angelous and Emily Dickinsons only come about once in a lifetime.

So what is the mere mortal to do ?  How does one sift through the plethora of poems that are out there ?  The web is a wonderful place, but finding a particular poem that describes your feelings is like find the needle in the haystack.  Luckily there are great mothers day poems sites like http://www.squidoo.com/great-mothers-day-poems .  Sites like this combine wonderful gift ideas and package them together with special poems to deliver the "WOW" at mother's day.

Trying to make time for your mother is equally important.  If your mom lives close by, try and plan on spending the day with her.  Try and do something different that the lunch or dinner thing.  It is the busiest time for restaurants and they are crowded and loud on that particular day.  Take a walk with your mother.  Take her to a craft shop and make something with her.  She'll remember that day every she looks at the plate or coffee mug you made with her.  If she is far away, make it point to at least give her a call and do something special.  Find a picture of you and her together and have it framed.  Make  video of you and her grandchildren expressing their feelings towards her and create a DVD and send it to her.  Perhaps you could post it up on You Tube or even email it to her.

One great gift is the gift of a webcam.  A webcam you say ?  How is that a Mother's Day gift?  When it arrives, talk her through the installation and download Skype.  Skype is an online phone service that is free from computer to computer.  Once it is working, on Mother's Day, have yourself and her grandchildren have a video call with her.  It really is the next best thing to being there for her.

If she's a really tech savvy mom, get her a video IPOD and put your video on it for her.  Get her an MP3 player filled with her favorite music and messages from you and your family to her.  You could get her a digital camera, and fill it up with wonderful pictures of you and your family for her.  There are lots of ways to make common gift something special with just a little thought.  Be creative.

For other great ideas check out http://hubpages.com/hub/Special-Mothers-Day-Poems.  Spend some time and choose the best gift.  Whether it is flowers, chocolates, wines, fruit baskets or even jewelry, put forth the effort and find the message that will describe your love for your mother the best.  Consider the gift as the wrapping for the message.  If you can give her a special message, it will last well beyond the life of the flowers.

Remember that Mother's Day for a lot of vendors, especially flowers, is the absolute busiest time of the year.  Waiting until the last minute may seriously diminish your ability to acquire the correct flower or gift.  Plan ahead, allow for shipping time but spend some time and choose the proper gift.  For instance, if she doesn't like roses, don't get the roses.  Carnations are the traditional flower, but get her the color and the type of flower see enjoys the most.  Same philosophy is with chocolates, wines, fruit baskets, food baskets, jewelry, or whatever gift you've chosen for her.

Making Mother's Day Special shouldn't be difficult.  Just take some time and something will jump out at you.
