Growing Green in Green Country

April 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Green Country’s premier server hosting facility “The ENGUARD Data Center”, completes technology and climate control upgrades and “GREENS UP” in the process.  These upgrades will allow us to save energy and continue delivering the 100% up-time our customers have enjoyed for the past six years, says COO / VP David Harrelson.

We started by adding Trane’s state of the art Sectional Unitary, Split Intellepack cooling systems for primary data-center cooling. These units employ the most reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly millennium scroll compressors on the market. This allows us to save a significant amount of energy every month for cooling the equipment in the ENGUARD data center.  Additionally, instead of relocating the previous HVAC system to a land fill, we were able to upgrade key components, gain overall efficiency and re-purpose the unit into a backup only HVAC capacity.

Our second phase was to replace our older power hungry Cisco Enterprise telecommunications infrastructure with Cisco’s latest, highly-efficient, fully redundant ASR ISP routers, Catalyst chassis based, redundant core switches and Cisco’s ISP class ASA firewalls.  This combined solution offers businesses maximum flexibility for secure connectivity by combining support for BGP4 redundant routing protocols, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and IP Security (IPsec) VPN capabilities into a single, best-in-class solution. Using the services offered by the redundant Cisco ASA 5500 Series Firewalls, businesses can enforce identity-based security and networking policies to all network traffic, thus enabling us to tailor-fit access privileges for every client.  
Employing the new redundant chassis based switches has allowed us to offer primary and secondary connections to each customer’s server or rack mounted switch.  All of this has been achieved while reducing the overall footprint by over 50% and achieving a significant reduction in power consumption across the board.

The ENGUARD data center plans to continue balancing it’s scheduled 2009 growth plan with environmentally responsible decisions and purchases.
