April 7, 2009 - PRLog -- WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- An estimated 6,200 radio stations nationwide are running commercials on their radio stations encouraging listeners to consider buying a car now. The campaign is the brainchild of a radio-industry trade magazine called Radio Ink, which is encouraging it's radio station readers to give back to the auto industry, which has been it's largest advertising category for decades. The magazine distributed  30- and 60-second radio spots, in English and Spanish, to the industry recently.

The campaign, which is estimated to be running on about 50% of all US radio stations is being aired by stations in almost every city in the United States and has been embraced by thousands of independent stations as well as those owned by most of the large radio broadcast groups, several radio networks and many internet radio broadcasters as well. Tens of Millions of dollars in airtime is being donated to aid the automotive industry.

According to Radio Ink's publisher B. Eric Rhoads, "I know that each of us has to play our role in helping to turn the economy around. I realized my publication could motivate thousands of radio stations to help, and since radio reaches 94% of American's every day, we though this could really move the needle. Though no amont of advertising will convince people to buy cars if they are not in a position to do so, many American's are in a position. This campaign is designed to motivate people who can buy." Rhoads went on to say, "Radio and the auto industry have had a successful partnership for decades. Car dealers have long been local radio's largest advertising category. And now it's time for radio to help out the troubled auto industry and show its gratitude for so many years of support."

Radio Ink has teamed for this effort with The Famous Radio Ranch, an audio advertising specialist in Hollywood, CA., which created and produced the spots for this campaign. The spots, which are available free for the use of any radio station, can be heard at http://www.radio-ranch.com/radio_auto.php. The message is simple: Times are tough, and local car dealers are working to stretch buyers' dollars like never before.

Spanish-language spots are also available for download at the same website. Those spots, with a similar positive message, were written by Hispanic USA principal Jose Cancela and produced by Citadel Media en Espanol's Juan Manuel Diaz.

Entercom Communications, which is one of the largest radio companies in America is currently airing the commercials.  According to  Entercom President/CEO David Field , "Since radio reaches 94 percent of the population and an audience that has continued to grow in recent years, we offer our customers an enormously powerful marketing platform. In these challenging times, Entercom and many other radio broadcasters are supporting our friends in the automotive business by running free messages encouraging our listeners to buy cars."
