Cyril’s Ramada Hotel ‘Fine’ Fund

April 5, 2009 - PRLog -- News about the disgraceful treatment the Ramada Hotel, Southport, gave 96 year old war veteran, Cyril Carter, has struck a chord with members of pro-choice group, Freedom2Choose, who will be contributing to the ‘Pay Cyril’s Fine Fund’ that has been set up by Click Liverpool.

Mr Carter had checked into the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Southport for a mini-break. He had no idea, and was not made aware of the hotel’s blanket ban on smoking. Upon his departure he was forced to remain at the hotel until an additional £100 for room cleaning had been paid, as he had smoked in his room during the visit.

“Quite why this particular Ramada Hotel has gone totally non-smoking is beyond me,” states Andy Davis, chairman of Freedom2Choose. They cite ‘cleaning issues’ to warrant this expense. Perhaps the Ramada do not realise that windows can be opened between guests checking in and out, or that there are products on the market that neutralize odours, before we even mention modern ventilation systems.”

Hotel rooms are exempt from the smoking ban as they are classed as your home for the duration of your stay. Ramada Hotels have sent a clear signal with their non-smoking policy that they do not wish to accommodate smokers, therefore Freedom2Choose have noted this on the 'Boycott Section' of their website.

“This hotel has vilified Mr Carter, who must wonder what has happened to the freedoms he and his generation fought for,” continues Andy Davis. “What was supposed to be a special treat for Mr and Mrs Carter and their family turned out to be an embarrassing fiasco due to the petty mindedness of a hotel chain proclaiming customer care as one of their priorities.”
