March 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – March 24, 2009 -- Light-Based Technologies is proud to announce the launch of a new line of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Replacement Lamps. With a range of lamps on offer and some of the lowest costs per lumen currently on the market, these lamps have been designed to speed up the adoption of this energy saving technology.

Solid-State Lighting (SSL) is currently being hyped as the replacement to the incandescent bulb. With potential to deliver savings of 90% of energy over incandescent, SSL lamps are the best solution ever proposed. They compare very favorably with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) as they contain no mercury, require no special disposable, are fully recyclable, last 5 times longer and are twice as energy efficient as their fluorescent counterparts.

SSL has already become ubiquitous in traffic signals and are in the process of adoption throughout entertainment and architectural applications. The latest generation of LEDs finally emits enough light to begin to replace many traditional incandescent applications, from area lights in parking garages to spot lights in your home.

Light-Based Technologies was responsible for designing the circuitry controlling the current and light output of these lamps. Working with this project has allowed them to gather useful insight into the challenges faced by all their customers and will also provide a fixture ready to receive their next generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) specifically designed to control the quality of white light from general lighting fixtures. This chip will be available in late summer and will mark a huge step forward in their ongoing development of linear control technologies for SSL.

The release of the MR16, Par20, Par30, Par38 and Par40 represent a major achievement and more than a year’s worth of development.  These lamps will deliver between 35-45 lumens per watt and power outputs will be equivalent to 40-60W incandescent.  Their low initial cost, long lifetimes and high efficiency will deliver the shortest payback period of any LED lamp currently on the market.

There are samples available and LBT hopes to have certified, production level quantities available by late spring. They are currently seeking distributors and sales representatives across North America.
