March 19, 2009 - PRLog -- The struggling economy is making many college students across the country think seriously about finding summer internships. As some companies are cutting back their internship programs due to the economy, President Obama is looking to help students spend their summer interning.

The Obama Administration recently announced the details of the President Obama’s White House Internship Program. This summer, students from across the country will have the opportunity to apply to intern at the White House. These students will be able to make a real impact in the government and even have the chance to work alongside President Obama during their summer internship.

"This program will mentor and cultivate young leaders of today and tomorrow and I'm proud that they will have this opportunity to serve," said President Obama. "I look forward to working with those that are selected to participate."

The goal of the internship program is to provide students real world job experience, build their leadership skills, and to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Working with the nation’s top officials and advisors, interns will be able to assist the Obama Administration and serve their country during their summer White House internship.

According to Jeffrey Adler, a founder of the internship website Think Intern, “The White House Internship Program is quickly becoming the hottest summer internship in the country. Imagine working alongside the Obama Administration and seeing first-hand an inside look at the federal government. During this monumental economic and political transition, interns will be able to make a real contribution and be a part of something truly historical.”

The White House Internship Program, now famously dubbed Obama Internships, have strict requirements for applicants, including U.S. citizenship, a minimum age of eighteen at the start of the internship, and enrollment at a college or university.  Students from all majors are encouraged to apply at Whitehouse.gov.

White House Internships are available in numerous departments, including the White House Communications Department, The Office of the First Lady, White House Office of Energy and Climate Change, and the Domestic Policy Council, among many others. Regardless of a student’s major or interests, the White House Internship Program offers a wide variety of positions.

Located in Washington, DC, these government internships are full-time, unpaid, and students must cover their own costs for transportation and housing. Although the experience is complete with a weekly lecture series hosted by top White House staff, the economic challenge of unpaid internships in the current recession are presenting a new set of challenges to students.

To address the financial burdens of interning, Think Intern is offering a $3,000 internship scholarship to students. Partnering with The Gallery Collection, the leading corporate greeting cards company, this $3,000 internship scholarship is part of Think Intern’s recently announced Internship Stimulus Package. All students are encouraged to apply at Thinkintern.com.

Despite the current economic woes, Think Intern and President Obama are working hard to enable students to intern this summer. With the White House Internship Program and the Internship Stimulus Package, summer internships are now possible for more students.
