NorthPointe Launches $20 Campaign

For Immediate Release: March 7, 2009

Plano, Texas – Can you buy a building for $20? NorthPointe Church believes it can be done. This week they are launching “20dollars.org,” a campaign to raise $1.5 million by asking 75,000 people to donate $20 for the purchase of a new church building. With the total amount raised, NorthPointe will be able to buy a recently renovated church completely debt-free.

The idea of being debt-free is important in today’s economy, but it will also allow NorthPointe to give to the community in need. By removing the cost of a building payment, outreach programs such as after school programs, job training, feeding the hungry and evangelism will all be possible.

In 1996, NorthPointe was founded in a home with only six church members. Since then the congregation has grown and met in some very interesting places including houses, sports complexes, schools and its current location, a shopping center.

In 2002, NorthPointe bought land near the corner of McDermott Road and Independence Parkway in Plano with the hopes of building a church. Architects were hired in 2006 to draft plans and preliminary steps were taken, however, the new church building would come with a high price of $2 million. One month ago, a local realtor called Pastor Brian McClane stating that he was standing in NorthPointe’s new building. The church building is twice the square footage of the planned church with a lesser cost and a more imminent future.

On Sunday, March 15, the church signed a contract to buy the church building with a prospected move in date of June 1. That leaves just over two months to raise the funds for full payment, but the church has faith that the goal will be met. “We’re so excited to be to a permanent facility where we can better serve the community,” said Pastor Amy McClane. “Our hope is to be debt free so we can concentrate on ministries, such as feeding the hungry.”

All the money collected will be used to secure a permanent location for NorthPointe. For more information on the campaign or on how to donate, contact NorthPointe 1108 W. Parker Rd. Suite 150, Plano, TX 75075 or at brian@northpointeplano.com or visit www.20dollars.org.
