Follow on Google News | Subdudes bring New Orleans-style Rock to Appel Farm Friday, June 12, 2009New event added to Evening Concert Series
(Elmer, NJ March 16, 2009) Appel Farm Arts and Music Center will conclude its 2008-09 concert season with the acclaimed New Orleans-inspired rock band, The subdudes, on Friday, June 12 at 8:00 PM. With a sound influenced by blues, folk, R&B, country, funk, gospel and rock n’ roll, this band is a hearty stew of Cajun gumbo that exudes the heady aroma of “laissez les bon temps rouler” – let the good times roll! The subdudes were born in 1987 after a gig at the famed roadhouse, Tipitinas, in New Orleans. With exquisite vocal interplay, and unique elements like Tommy Malone’s slide, Steve Magnie’s accordion and Steve Amedee’s brushed and hand-struck tambourine, the group is best known for their rich harmonies and songs that bring to mind the good times the Big Easy is known for. Their first album contained hits like “Need Somebody", "Any Cure" and "Got You On His Mind." Their eclectic songs fuse the best traditions of their hometown's black music influences - blues, funk, Mardi Gras or gospel - with an earthy, punchy delivery. To add to the early summer fun, Appel Farm is inviting concert-goers to enjoy a picnic supper prior to the show. Patrons are encouraged to bring the meal of their choice to the Appel Farm site, and enjoy a stress-free and relaxed dining experience. Free lemonade and cookies will be served.
