March 13, 2009 - PRLog -- Rahul Doshi and Ashish B. Parmar, award-winning cosmetic dentists from Extreme Makeover and Partners at The Perfect Smile Studios & Academy in the South East, said, “Since the credit crunch first hit in the summer of 2008, the Great British public started to cut back on nights out and opt for nights in front of the TV with a takeaway. With the increasing popularity of makeover shows such as Extreme makeover, it is not surprising, that everyone wants a slice of the cosmetic dentistry pie,”

Research from The Times newspaper recently discovered that ninety-six percent of adults ‘feel that an unattractive smile would make a member of the opposite sex less attractive despite wrinkle-free, flawless skin and a further Seventy-four percent of adults also felt that an unattractive smile could hurt a person’s chances of career success. This statistic alone, really goes to show how life-changing teeth whitening, dental implants and porcelain veneers can be.

There are a number of reasons why a patient may choose to get their teeth whitened, ranging from staining problems caused by cigarettes to drinks like tea and coffee, others may suffer with staining under the surface of their teeth caused by some antibiotics and tiny cracks in the tooth enamel.

Despite an influx in whitening toothpastes on the market, cosmetic dentistry still rules as the market leader in tooth whitening. Although whitening toothpastes can be effective at removing staining and improving the overall appearance of your teeth, laser whitening can achieve a much more dramatic look.

Mr Doshi, whose dental practice offers a complete smile make-over, said, “We see so many people who require work on their smile, some through bad habits such as smoking, but many others have just been afraid to come to the dentist due to phobia.  At The Perfect Smile Studios, we actively work to make sure that nervous patients are catered for and make our treatment rooms akin to those you would expect in a beauty salon.  For those patients who are extremely nervous, we even offer sedation as a conscious relaxation technique.”

There are several whitening toothpastes on the market. Although they do not affect the natural colour of your teeth, they may be effective at removing staining and therefore may improve the overall appearance of your teeth or be used after laser whitening to maintain the desired look.
