March 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Christian drug treatment is not only an option for people who are seeking help in overcoming their drug addictions; it is one of the most popular options for addiction treatment.  There are quite a lot of different secular drug addiction recovery centers that are quite successful in helping drug addicts achieve sobriety, but the fact is that a Christian based approach to recovering from drug addiction usually has the most potential for success.  Why are Christian drug recovery programs so much better than other approaches to drug addiction treatment?

The fact is that there are a lot of different approaches to drug addiction recovery.  A number of these addiction treatment programs offer a Christian drug treatment approach while there are also many whose approach is more secular and even programs that do not involve any sort of faith based approach at all.  There are drug addiction recovery programs that medicate patients to help cut down on cravings for the patient's drug of choice and to reduce the withdrawal symptoms the addict will experience when he stops using.  Other addiction treatment programs force their patients to quit their drug of choice "cold turkey" and to immediately begin a drug-abstinent life.  There are in-patient treatment centers and out-patient treatment centers.

In-patient Christian drug treatment is fairly self explanatory.  The drug addict will check himself into the addiction treatment center and will stay there for a certain amount of time.  Some people who check into in-patient addiction treatment centers will only remain there for three weeks.  Other people will check into an in-patient addiction therapy program for as long as six months.  The length of a drug addict's stay in treatment depends on a few different criteria.  The most important of these criteria is the strength of the addict's addiction.  Some addicts are confident that they can kick their habit in as few as twenty one days.  Others are less sure and check in for longer periods of time to give them a good long time to adjust to sobriety.

Out-patient Christian drug treatment is widely varied.  Some addicts are forced into out-patient drug rehab by the court and are ordered by the court to keep to a strict drug check/therapy and meeting schedule.  Other out patient programs are voluntary and the length of time that it will take a drug addict to get sober will depend on how well the addict can work recovery treatments into his social and work schedules.  A lot of out patient drug addiction treatment centers will administer medication to addicts.  The medication helps the addict get through the withdrawal phase of getting sober and helps to lessen the drug cravings an addict will battle as he works to maintain his sobriety.  Medication-based out patient clinics are most popular among people who battle meth addiction.

Christian drug treatment can be both in patient and out patient.  Christian drug treatment differs from other addiction recovery programs in that a Christian program will add in programs that are based around the Christian faith.  Addicts who choose Christian drug recovery will go to scripture study sessions, attend church services on a regular basis as well as go to individual and group therapy meetings.  All of these meetings and sessions will teach drug addicts how to glean inspiration from bible verses and Christian philosophy and use that inspiration to stay sober.  While the Old Testament is used, it is the teachings of Jesus Christ that are given the most emphasis when drug addicts are taught about staying sober.

Drug addicts who choose Christian drug treatment over other types of addiction recovery programs are privy to a number of benefits that addicts who choose other types of drug rehab programs.  Drug addicts who have found success via Christian drug treatment will tell others that it is the Christian philosophy that helps them stay sober.  There are many passages in the Bible that can be used to teach drug addicts how to face their addiction and get over it.  Regular church attendance has also proven to be beneficial.  It provides the addict with regularly scheduled activities to look forward to as well as access to the built in support system that a neighborhood church provides.

Why should someone choose a Christian drug treatment program instead of other kinds of drug addiction recovery programs?  The most important reason that Christian drug addiction treatment is superior to more secular approaches is the inviting community that is provided by Christian drug recovery programs.  The singular approach of Christian philosophy is easier for the drug addict to focus on instead of giving them a buffet of different recovery approaches.  Being surrounded by people who are going through the same thing and who believe the same things as the addict is often found comforting and that comfort helps the addict achieve sobriety.

Readers might be surprised to learn that even addicts who claimed to be "faith free" found Christian drug treatment more beneficial than other types of addiction recovery programs.  Finding faith in Christ is often the catalyst that helps them overcome their drug addiction permanently.
