North Wales Company Bans Recession Talk

A North Wales company have banned the recession from its offices, fining staff for uttering any references to credit crunches, recessions, or economic crisis.
March 4, 2009 - PRLog -- A North Wales company have forbidden staff from uttering any terms relating to the current economic crisis. Any staff heard to utter the terms "credit crunch", "recession", "economic crisis" or "great depression" will be fined on the spot.

Jonathan Fagan, Managing Director of Ten-Percent Legal Recruitment based near Ruthin in Denbighshire, defended his company's position:

"I read many years ago that to be successful business people you have to think positively. The way you speak to clients and colleagues can affect the way you do business, and as a result of this, we are encouraging staff to think positively about the current situation. As part of this, we have banned the use in the office of any terms relating to the economic crisis, and staff will be fined £1 per outburst, with the money going to our charitable foundation."

Critics have pointed to freedom of speech issues, but Fagan is confident that the staff understand:

"I realise this is quite a controversial move, but I am tired of hearing the same old lines being trotted out. Everyone needs to be positive, accept the position the economy is in, and just get on with it. I am fining myself and other directors as well as employees, so we need to be careful too."
