March 3, 2009 - PRLog -- BERTHOUD, CO, Feb. 28, 2009  –  In recognition of outstanding support of science, technology, engineering and technology programs in Northern Colorado, the educational non-profit Action Works presented Partner of the Year awards to Woodward Governor Company, of Fort Collins, Colo. and GE Energy, of Loveland, Colo.
“The support that Woodward and GE have provided to these educational programs has been incredible,” said Liz Rayment, president of Action Works. “The companies have contributed money and equipment, and employees of the companies have contributed countless hours to the success of the programs.”
“Woodward and our members are thrilled to be part of the FIRST LEGO League and VEX robotics programs that Action Works organizes in our community,” said Chad Preiss, Group Vice President of Woodward. “It’s exciting to see kids engaged in hands-on engineering activities like this, and knowing that this challenging exposure to technical problem-solving might lead them to pursue a college degree that will help build a work force prepared to solve our country’s technical challenges.”
The Partner of the Year awards were presented to GE Energy and Woodward at the first ever Colorado Championship for VEX Robotics, held at Berthoud High School February 28, 2009. VEX Robotics is a mid-sized build-it-yourself robot creation kit, used in schools and competitions.
“The leverage of these contributions is tremendous,” Liz Rayment said. “In addition to robotics equipment, Woodward donated a few laptop computers to the program, and within two days kids at a Title I elementary school were using them to program robots.”
