March 2, 2009 - PRLog -- A part of American history hit the online auction block this week,  1964 Worlds Fair Heywood Wakefield space age chairs were listed on America's new online auction site www.efleaa.com.
Do you remember where you were in 1964? Listening to the World Series as St. Louis beat the famed New York Yankees 4 games to 3, or maybe keeping up with the Olympics being held in Tokyo or hearing a young Cassius Clay (the future Muhammad Ali) screaming I shook up the world as he defeats Sonny Liston to win heavyweight boxing title.
Were you watching the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City?
Just maybe you were in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in the Borough of Queens where the 1964 New York World’s Fair was being held, sitting in these exact same Heywood Wakefield space age chairs.
Now you can own the chairs made by Heywood Wakefield, a company that made chairs and furniture from 1826 to 1966.
Modern furniture is the rage these days as you can see on a lot of popular television show sets and in a lot of baby boomers homes, those same Baby Boomers came from the same era as these chairs.
These chairs may be the only one at the present time that are on the market and this well may be the last opportunity for the modern furniture buyer to purchase such a piece of Baby Boomer history. Searching the world wide web, we find no others like them for sale.
The owner purchased 2 sets of these chairs in Allentown, PA in 1998 was told they were produced for one of the World's fairs during the 1960's and upon seeking the opinion of Auctions and Antiques Examiner AuctionWally he was told ( part of Wally's comment on the chairs is as follows)
"You were given good information, those are indeed 1964, New York Worlds' Fair seating. The screen mesh seat bottom ensures rainwater drainage, and the pedestal base means these were mounted as a resting place next to one of those uber retro WF buildings that looked like a satellite."   (See info on AuctionWally below).
So those of you who love this type of furniture and the history behind it, this is your chance  to decorate your home in the modern fad that is sweeping the country, by adding these 1964 Worlds Fair Heywood Wakefield Modernism space age chairs to your decor.
You can go to www.efleaa.com and find these chairs up for Auction right now, Start Time  Mar. 01, 2009 - End Time    Mar. 08, 2009 14:47:21.
