Project architect Patrick Hillier explains that “our firm has a strong history of using metal panels as a design element.” Although this was the first time the firm had used Metl-Span, according to Hillier, “The panel had a good price point and worked well with the design concept. For cost effectiveness, we wanted to stay within available modules. Getting that information from Metl-Span during the design stage was very helpful so that we could make the best decisions. It was the basis of our design.” The designers selected Metl-Span’s 30” module width with 3” thickness. The CF Architectural wall panels are also available in 24” and 36” module widths. Other standard thicknesses include 2”, 2 ½” and 4”. The lower levels of the new auditorium utilized brick to blend with existing portions of the building. “But we decided to use Metl-Span panels on the upper parts of the auditorium that reached 20’ to 30’ higher.
