Feb. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Bainbridge Island, WA – The Boys & Girls Club of Bainbridge Island announced today that preparations are well underway for the 2nd annual Boys & Girls Club Week activities, which will kick off with an Open House from 5:30 – 7:30 pm on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at the Main Clubhouse, 8521 Madison Avenue NE.

Bainbridge Island residents are invited to get a first-hand look at the Club’s extensive youth development programs and after school activities during the Open House. During a special Open House celebration Club alumni will be recognized, including Bonny Clark, Founding Board Member and a strong advocate of the Club and its mission.

“For a decade our Club has had thousands of young people pass through our doors to engage in positive youth development programming, for that we derive a great deal of pride. However, without the dedicated service of our past staff and board members, we would not be here today.  The success of the Boys & Girls Club on Bainbridge is a testament to the power of teamwork and community support,” said Pat Murray, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Bainbridge Island.

Boys & Girls Club Week also includes two fundraising events, the Burning Calories for Kids event at the Bainbridge Athletic Club on Wednesday, March 11th, featuring an auction for two US Open tickets, and A Taste of Edna’s on Saturday, March 14th at Edna’s Beach Café, featuring a silent auction for fine wines, an Oregon Winter Adventure Package and other specialty items.

“Bainbridge Athletic Club is proud to sponsor and host the Burning Calories for Kids event for the Boys & Girls Club of Bainbridge Island,” said Shelly Stockman, manager of Bainbridge Athletic Club. “The Club provides an essential service to our kids, families and community. Without our collective support, the Club would be unable to provide our youth with high quality programs after school and throughout the summer.”

All proceeds raised during Club Week help support the Club’s scholarship program. Scholarship requests are on the rise as a result of the economic downturn, while the cost of serving each individual member remains steady at $1000/year.

“There is more need than ever for financial support from the community in order to maintain this important community service,” said Pat Murray.
