Feb. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- IDL Systems has announced that it is offering its online courses at no cost to colleges and universities in the midst of the US economic crisis.

The offer comes in response to the increasing pressures placed on colleges and universities to cut costs and to generate new revenue streams to cover shrinking endowments and growing internal costs. At the same time, more students are heading back to school as layoffs and depressed wages spur the need to improve their skills. With limited resources, schools are having trouble meeting this renewed demand.

“There is a great need to be able to provide high quality, interactive courses at a low cost, and with our offerings, now is the time to offer this opportunity.” said Don Hutchinson, President and CEO of IDL.

IDL is offering colleges the ability to register up to 10 students per course at no charge to the college for each course they decide to offer through IDL. This allows schools to begin or expand their online courses at no additional cost. These courses are available for immediate deployment or can be customized at modest cost. Institutions have until September 15, 2009 to implement.

Unlike traditional Learning Management System (LMS) providers, IDL offers a customized course delivery system, presenting content in up to five different learning styles with interactive exercises, multimedia, and a quiz feature that suggests the optimal learning style based on responses and recycles users through missed content until they get it right. A learning management system with the full functionality of standard LMS’s is also paired with the Course Delivery System, adding value and functionality.

IDL partners with top-quality publishers such as McGraw-Hill Higher Education, John Wiley, J. Ross Publishing, and Elsevier to provide pre-built content on its platform. Courses can be customized to include a college’s branding and course material at no cost. Private institutions and community colleges in fully accredited degree programs and non-credit certificate programs across the country are currently utilizing customized versions of IDL’s courses.
